I have used screen-cast before for both work and rudai23 in 2015 so I wanted to give powtoon a try. It reminded me somewhat of a flash media creator with the time line and animated options.   

There are a few different options to chose from you can start from scratch, you can follow a set story board, or you can choose a template. These give you a great start for your presentation. I had a try of the story board and it was good giving lots of different backgrounds for your slides and allowing you to adapt them. it also gives you what it calls different structures These are various styles to suit audiences education, work or personal.  By using these method you could create a presentation quite quickly.

The method I went for though was the create from scratch option. It gives you greater control over your project. As this was my first one I just wanted to create something simple so I went with advice for presentations. 

I chose the whiteboard style as I liked the animation here it was not as mad colourful or cartoony. I could have slowed down the animation but I wanted a fairly short video but I like how you can control the speed of slide to slide movement. I also like how you can have different timings for the writing and animation in each slide.

Powtoon I is easy to use being similar to other presentation packages like power point but may take a bit longer to get familiar with. 

Problems 

I had some difficulty getting the video to embed in my blog. The code needed refused to transfer over into this blog. Eventually after a number of tries it succeeded in getting it to work. Access powtoon on mobile phones proved difficult as most of the page didn't show up on my screen.

Image Banks I had an idea of when I started this course that I would have a theme running through my posts that would give me a topic on which to hang the tasks around and generally make it easier for me to write a blog.  The topic I had chosen was food including gardening and cooking. It may not be very appropriate for my work but it would give me lots of vibrant pictures.  Using images can bring a minefield of problems. When making posters, writing projects in your own work or helping others with course work copyright can cause confusion. As a librarian I have had to explain to people what they can use and what they can't and how they can use items. I've had to sign agreements with the owners of photographs on how and where it will be used. I sometimes had difficulty explaining this to the person who requested the photograph.  I have used both pixabay and flikr before. I am part of the WRSLAI committee so I have uploaded uploaded photos of our events to our folder.

Thing six Reflective Practice

Thoughts so far.. contemplation by Rene van Haeften cc by-na-sa 2.0 We are now a quarter way through Rudai23 and its flown by so fast its hard to believe. I signed up to this years Rudai23 course to begin to learn new skills and tools as I have fallen behind in keeping up with new mobile technology developments.  I had engaged with the Gibbs cycle in college and always found it made writing a report easier as it gave a useful framework on which to build your ideas on a topic. I was however always thrown by the "Feelings" portion of the cycle. I have never really had any strong feelings about any task, either could I complete the job or I couldn't. The first task we had to accomplish was to set up a blog. I had set one up before for the last time I did rudai23 but I didn't want to use the same one. Thing 20 Advocacy and Engagement

Answers to the Questions  I have been out of the game for longer than I thought I would so this is first post since Christmas. I have answered most of the questions Marie asked I think. The ones I have left I will hopefully come back at a later date and answer them. Exercise 1: Name three detrimental effects to a local community when a public library is closed. I feel there is a lack no secular quite spaces in the world. Everyday and everywhere is filled with noise and seemingly all of drive by commercial interests. Libraries were like churches in that it was a place you could go to and not be bombarded with selling of useless stuff and ideas. The death of local Ireland is here more than rural Ireland. I think libraries like post offices, local shops allowed people to meet and engage as a community. There are places where if you’re not seen you’ll be missed.   Libraries act as an archive for a place and community. With people not living or working in the same place l
