Thing two: blog post

My first Rudai blog post

Hello! My name is Emmet and I've been a qualified librarian for eight years now. I have worked in a wide range of information centres and libraries. I became a librarian because I like books, people, organising and researching or finding information. 

I studied the granduate diploma of library and information studies on a part time basis in UCD. My favourite modules were the teaching librarian and children's literature. These two are the ones I have asked about most in interviews. 

I'm not working in libraries for the time being. I am currently cleaning databases of clutter before they get upgraded. 

I did the Rudai23 course the first time out in 2015 and really enjoyed it. It had a wide range of topics from images, podcasting, presentations, augmented reality and many more. The "things"were all useful for a workplace setting and I have used what I learned in several places of employment. 

I look forward to learning new skills and up-dating the ones I learned the last time and working along with everyone else on the course. Hope to read and hear from you for the next few months.

Thing three Image Banks

Image Banks I had an idea of when I started this course that I would have a theme running through my posts that would give me a topic on which to hang the tasks around and generally make it easier for me to write a blog.  The topic I had chosen was food including gardening and cooking. It may not be very appropriate for my work but it would give me lots of vibrant pictures.  Using images can bring a minefield of problems. When making posters, writing projects in your own work or helping others with course work copyright can cause confusion. As a librarian I have had to explain to people what they can use and what they can't and how they can use items. I've had to sign agreements with the owners of photographs on how and where it will be used. I sometimes had difficulty explaining this to the person who requested the photograph.  I have used both pixabay and flikr before. I am part of the WRSLAI committee so I have uploaded uploaded photos of our events to our folder.

Thing six Reflective Practice

Thoughts so far.. contemplation by Rene van Haeften cc by-na-sa 2.0 We are now a quarter way through Rudai23 and its flown by so fast its hard to believe. I signed up to this years Rudai23 course to begin to learn new skills and tools as I have fallen behind in keeping up with new mobile technology developments.  I had engaged with the Gibbs cycle in college and always found it made writing a report easier as it gave a useful framework on which to build your ideas on a topic. I was however always thrown by the "Feelings" portion of the cycle. I have never really had any strong feelings about any task, either could I complete the job or I couldn't. The first task we had to accomplish was to set up a blog. I had set one up before for the last time I did rudai23 but I didn't want to use the same one. Thing 12 Collaborative tools

My most recent collaboration was with Saoirse when writing our communication strategy. We did this through email and sharing documents over google drive. I am a also member of the WRSLAI group and we use a lot of different tools to work together to organise our events. We are a geographically spread committee so use a lot of different tools to communicate with each other. For all the criticisms aimed at google it offers a lot of tools that allow that to happen hangouts allow us to have face to face interaction, google docs and google drive allow us to share and create and edit documents.  Doodle polls I have used to mostly decide when people want to meet up.  The last group project I worked on was the organising of the group seminar held in sixmilebridge.    Did you work face to face, virtually or via a combination of the two?
