Thing 22 Reflective Post

Considerations This is my reflective blog for my third badge : The Engaged Professional. I did not do the tasks in order this time as I wanted time to plan and to think about the tasks.  I started on Thing 20 and it was the most challenging thing to date. I disagree with Marie on her description of opportunities for all. While the title of the report may sing the praises of the library as a pillar of the community the report itself I found to be a fudge. It was been used to bring in open libraries. This scheme is trying to shoe horn a system which works in academic libraries but is unfit for public libraries. It is far from open for all, toilets are locked after staff leave meaning disabled may find some difficulties in using what is a public space. The lack of security and the reported anti-social incidents may make unsafe for certain groups. This scheme is being pushed through despite concerns raised by library staff. My experience at a recent seminar  showed a distin...

thing five presentation videos

Presentations I have used screen-cast before for both work and rudai23 in 2015 so I wanted to give powtoon a try. It reminded me somewhat of a flash media creator with the time line and animated options.    There are a few different options to chose from you can start from scratch, you can follow a set story board, or you can choose a template. These give you a great start for your presentation. I had a try of the story board and it was good giving lots of different backgrounds for your slides and allowing you to adapt them. it also gives you what it calls different structures These are various styles to suit audiences education, work or personal.  By using these method you could create a presentation quite quickly. The method I went for though was the create from scratch option. It gives you greater control over your project. As this was my first one I just wanted to create something simple so I went with advice for presentations.  I chose the whit...

Thing four Communicating Visually

Image
Photofunia etc  Until recently I used to own a windows phone. The selection of apps for windows was always poor but when it became apparent that microsoft were never going to compete against Apple or Android developers stopped updating or just never created apps for windows. The whole apps thing because passed me by even yet I only have ones for public transport or texting.  This "Thing" really interested me as I got to explore a few mobile apps that I would never normally have looked at.   The first one I looked at was photofunia I enjoyed using it and thought it was good fun. I created one for my nephew as a Sith Lord as he is a massive Star Wars fan and he loved it.  There was a massive amount of different styles of effects on offer from movies to art galleries.  Though I used for fun I can see how it could be used to promote events with eye-catching visuals ad special effects. Adding a jpeg of a flyer to the worker putting a billboard size ve...

Thing two: blog post

My first Rudai blog post Hello! My name is Emmet and I've been a qualified librarian for eight years now. I have worked in a wide range of information centres and libraries. I became a librarian because I like books, people, organising and researching or finding information.  I studied the granduate diploma of library and information studies on a part time basis in UCD. My favourite modules were the teaching librarian and children's literature. These two are the ones I have asked about most in interviews.  I'm not working in libraries for the time being. I am currently cleaning databases of clutter before they get upgraded.  I did the Rudai23 course the first time out in 2015 and really enjoyed it. It had a wide range of topics from images, podcasting, presentations, augmented reality and many more. The "things"were all useful for a workplace setting and I have used what I learned in several places of employment.  I look forward to learning new ...
